Meet for an informal consultation. We will discuss your requirements and expectations, and how we can make the sessions work best.

Before The Session

Before The Session

Each session is meticulously planned so that your child makes progress EACH SESSION. This is achieved by identifying areas in which they need to improve, and planning interesting sessions to engage and motivate them.

During The Session

During The Session

Sessions are delivered in a supportive and comfortable environment in a way that best suits the individual’s learning style.
The first year of the IB is a big step up from GCSE. I can provide support and practical advice which will build confidence ensuring they get the most from the course.

Or if they are in the second year and facing course work and final exams, I can help with the structuring and use of language in course work, and ensure they are equipped with the knowledge of what examiners are looking for in the reading, writing and speaking elements of the exam.

Whether you need someone to teach concepts they don’t understand, or help with essay writing or exam time-management skills, I can provide 1-2-1 tuition sessions to help.  Get in touch with your requirements and we can chat about how 1-2-1 tuition can work for you.

Does your son/daughter need to resit any AS Level exams?  Or maybe they achieved good results but want to ensure they reach their full potential for their A2 exams in the summer?

Whether you need someone to teach concepts they don’t understand, or help with essay writing or exam time-management skills, I can provide 1-2-1 tuition sessions to help.  Get in touch with your requirements and we can chat about how 1-2-1 tuition can work for you.

Is your child overwhelmed at the thought of taking their GCSEs? Are their controlled assessments looming? Do they need help reinforcing what they have learnt in school or challenging further?

I have experience teaching to Edexcel, AQA and OCR exam boards.  I teach interesting, creative sessions to challenge your child to reach their full potential.

Just a few phrases can make your trip that much more enjoyable and productive. Be it to order a meal, ask directions or discuss the weather understanding the language can make a big difference to your experience. Maybe starting from scratch, rediscovering your O’Level languages or wanting to be able to take a little more away from that important business meeting, I can help you take your language skills to the next step by tailoring the tuition time to your specific requirements.
All face-to-face sessions can take place at my home in Compton Martin.  But if you’d rather your child worked from the comfort of your own home, this is possible in most cases.  I now also offer 1-2-1 Skype sessions, so you can reach your potential no matter where you are in the world!

About Rebecca

I am a fully qualified Secondary School Teacher with over 15 years of experience, specialising in teaching KS3, GCSE, A-Level and IB students in a number of schools in the South West.

I am extremely passionate about my subject, and I convey this through innovative, challenging lessons that will keep students interested and motivated. I believe the key to engaging all students is to get to know their likes and dislikes, and plan accordingly (meaning I probably spend as long planning my sessions as I do teaching them!)

I am dedicated to helping children achieve their potential. I love creating sessions that will challenge students. My sessions will be a combination of all of these factors – individual planning, interesting sessions and effective marking – that will ultimately result in your child’s progress.

Frequently Asked Questions

I specialise in GCSE and 6th form students, but can adapt my educational program to suit all ages and levels of learners.
Sessions are planned and delivered to suit the individual learning style and needs of the student. Read more on this process
All sessions take place at my home in Compton Martin.  Alternatively, we can arrange for sessions to take place from the comfort of your own home but there may be a small charge depending on area.  Contact me for more details.
Sessions are arranged in advance for a mutually agreeable time and date. The days I work are Monday, Tuesday and Thursday [all availability depends on other clients]. It is advisable to book at least a week in advance and, once a suitable day and time is determined, keep this as a recurring appointment.
That is up to you. I offer 40-60 minutes for GCSE and 1-2hrs for 6th formers or adults. I would not recommend longer than 1 hour sessions for 1-2-1 GCSE students, but longer times can be particularly useful for groups or GCSE students needing intensive sessions.
As the tutor is working with your child in a more focused way than would be possible in a class of children, a lot can be achieved in a short time. There are many reasons why a tutor may benefit your child.

If your child is not making expected progress or if their confidence is slipping, a tutor can work with them in a supportive and focused environment to give them a boost and get them back on track.

If your child needs to improve their grades to pass a forthcoming exam, such as an entrance exam or GCSE’s, the tutor can plan and deliver tailored lessons suited to the individual to ensure they make noticeable progress. They can also spend more time giving individual feedback and helping students understand the assessment criteria – aspects of teaching that teachers in mainstream classes just don’t have the time to do in as much detail as a tutor does.

If your child has an exceptional ability in Languages or you feel they need stretching and challenging further, a tutor can work with them to ensure their needs are met.

1-2-1 tutoring means sessions will be planned for one individual’s needs and sessions will be undertaken between one student and one tutor. This means the student gets the full attention of the tutor and as such, progress is made much more rapidly than if the student was sharing the teacher with a group of 30, as in most secondary schools today.

Small Group tutoring means that sessions can take place with one tutor and either 2, 3 or 4 students.
I graduated from the University of Bradford with a BA (Hons) French and Spanish in 1994 and went on to secure my PGCE at Cambridge University in 1995. Throughout my career I have regularly taken training on a variety of subjects, from Child Protection and Health and Safety to all the latest teaching initiatives.

I also hold an up-to-date DBS. All my certificates are available to view on request.

As a Modern Foreign Languages teacher I have experience of teaching children of primary age through to native speakers of French and Spanish in the Sixth Form, including preparing students for Oxbridge.  I have worked at a variety of secondary schools, both state and independent for over 15 years, including as a Head of Department.
I ask that if you need to cancel a session, you give as much notice as possible so that your appointment time may be given to somebody else. However, as a mother myself, I know that this isn’t always possible and unforeseen circumstances such as illness do occasionally arise. I operate a 48 hour policy, meaning that if you cancel a session less than 48 hours before the session is due to take place, I would expect that session to be rearranged as soon as possible or for it to be paid for in full.
I accept cash in advance or at the time of the session, or you can pay in advance by bank transfer.
